We get your fat off

We all know them, the little fat pads on our hips, more belly than we want to have, thighs that no longer fit into our old jeans. Exercise and a healthy diet are ways to reduce this accumulation of fat deposits on our bodies.

External treatment with CoolSculpting, i.e. the freezing of certain fat cells in individual areas of the body, is another.

The combination of all three is a very effective way of getting closer to our ideal figure again and getting rid of unloved fat deposits.

How does CoolSculpting work?

The procedure behind the device name CoolSculpting from the world market leader in this field is known as cryolipolysis, the freezing away of excess pounds.

Fat cells under the skin are damaged by the cold, frozen, die and are irretrievably removed by the body’s lymphatic system over the course of the next few days and weeks.

The areas to be treated are suctioned and cooled down considerably using applicators in various sizes to suit the corresponding fat deposit. During this non-invasive fat removal procedure, the skin is protected from the cold by a fluid.

Only external and reversible numbness occurs under this fat removal treatment. Patients describe cold therapy as virtually pain-free. The CoolSculpting treatment of a fat pad area usually takes 30 to 50 minutes.

Which areas of the body can be treated with CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting can be used to reduce unwanted fat deposits on the hips, stomach, arms, bottom, under the chin and on the legs. A big belly, love handles or riding breeches can be reduced. However, fat on the inner thighs or hip fat can also be successfully reduced using this method.

Numerous studies have shown that fat reduction is between 20 and 40 percent. The result is visible after two to three months on average. As it is impossible to specifically reduce fat deposits through diet, non-surgical fat removal with Coolsculpting is a sustainable and effective method of fulfilling the desire for a better figure, more body contouring and fewer love handles in the wrong places.

  • Double chin
  • Thigh (inside)

How satisfied are our patients with the results?

“My patients are very satisfied with the results of fat-away cryotherapy. The method is tried and tested. Everyone particularly likes the fact that several areas of the body can be treated with CoolSculpting in one session.”

Dr. Susanne Kristof, SK AESTHETICS Rapperswil-Jona

How long has CoolSculpting been around?

CoolSculpting was invented in the late 1990s by the German dermatologist Dr. Dieter Manstein, who lived and worked in the United States.

There, together with his colleague Dr. R. Rox Anderson, he discovered the cryolipolysis procedure, i.e. the freezing away of excess pounds, and brought it to market maturity under the term CoolSculping. Dr. Manstein now works at Harvard Medical School, among other places, and completed his residency in dermatology and his doctorate in physics and lasers at the University of Münster in Germany.

What are the advantages of CoolScultping compared to other weight loss methods such as liposuction?

The great advantage of using CoolSculpting is the non-invasive treatment, i.e. fat reduction without surgery. The alternative, liposuction, is an operation that is associated with anesthesia, large wound areas, pain and a longer convalescence.

In addition, the CoolSculpting treatment does not lead to downtime. Patients can get up again immediately after each treatment and go home, to work or even do sport.

  • no OP
  • No wound infections
  • No downtime
  • No surgical risk
  • virtually no pain
  • Lower costs than with surgery

What are the risks or side effects?

After the treatment, bruises, i.e. hematomas, may form due to the firm suction of the applicators. In some cases, the skin on the treated areas of the body may feel temporarily numb, reddened or swollen. These side effects rarely last longer than a few days. A very rare side effect of the procedure, made famous by former top model Linda Evangelista, is so-called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, which is estimated to occur in around 1 in 20,000 patients treated. The cause has not yet been researched. Fortunately, a similar case has never occurred in my practice, even after many years of using the device.

Pregnant women and new mothers should only start treatment after the end of the breastfeeding period. In addition, CoolSculpting is not recommended for the treatment of severe overweight and obesity.

An individual consultation is highly recommended, especially for people with pre-existing conditions and physical impairments, before treatment with the CoolSculpting procedure.

My advice

As a doctor, I recommend to my patients who want to reduce their weight, optimize their figure or specifically remove unwanted fat deposits a combination of healthy eating, exercise and innovative technology-based medicine such as CoolSculpting for effective, lasting success.

With CoolSculpting, we have had a fat reduction treatment without surgery for several years. This cold therapy for fat reduction is tried and tested and is used worldwide. There are no restrictions for patients afterwards: even sport is possible on the same day after a CoolSculpting treatment.

But: It is also not a free pass for cream cakes, because although the removed cells are then really gone, the remaining fat cells can expand again. If you would like to find out more, I would be happy to arrange a personal consultation.

FAQs – Frequently asked questions

Liposuction is a real operation that is often trivialized by surgeons. It is a real surgical procedure that is associated with large wound areas and considerable pain. As a rule, you will not be able to work or do sport for a few days after this operation.

CoolSculpting, on the other hand, is a purely external, i.e. non-invasive, virtually pain-free treatment. Immediately after the treatment you can walk, drive and work again. So there is no downtime at all here. There is also no surgical risk, such as wound infections etc.

The cryolipolysis system was developed in the 1990s. The device was first launched on the European market under the name Zeltiq. We have been working with the original device for over 10 years, have very satisfied patients and have not experienced any serious complications to date.

The body loses fat cells when we consume more than we take in. Therefore, we can only lose weight if we take in less energy with our food than we burn. Unfortunately, in reality it is often the case that the very fat you like on your body disappears first and the annoying fat deposits virtually never disappear. I therefore always recommend a combination of a calorie-reduced diet, sport and plenty of exercise and a treatment with CoolSculpting.

Liposuction is a liposuction procedure. These terms are used synonymously.
