Anti-wrinkle treatments

Be radiantly beautiful!

For some, wrinkles are a sign of wisdom, character and life experience. For others, they are signs of ageing, stress and fatigue.

Wrinkles develop on the face, neck and décolleté for a variety of reasons and the shape that they take is determined by various factors. Some people may have a predisposition to developing wrinkles at a young age. Lifestyle also plays an important role. However, the strongest factor for premature skin ageing and wrinkling is the effect of the sun on the skin.

The good news is there is a lot you can do to keep your face looking fresh and youthful for longer. Caring for the skin with both preventive and active measures and treatments is the key. Your skin is worth taking care of. It is your largest sensory organ and your protection against the outside world. It regulates your body temperature and is crucial for the perception of various stimuli. There are many ways to make your skin look great and achieve a fresh complexion. We will be happy to help you make the right choice at our practice.

Method

What helps against wrinkles?

Anti-wrinkle treatments include various cosmetic procedures, aesthetic treatments and at-home skincare products that aim to reduce or minimise the appearance of wrinkles.

Common anti-wrinkle treatments include:

  • Creams and serums:

There are numerous skincare products on the market that contain ingredients designed to improve collagen and skin elasticity to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Many of these products are good: they nourish and moisturise the skin. In most cases, however, a good sunscreen in the morning and a skin-renewing cream in the evening, such as skin care products with retinol or fruit acids, is sufficient.

  • Sun protection:

A high sun protection factor, applied daily, is the best way to prevent wrinkles and keep your skin looking young, fresh and healthy for a lifetime.

  • Botulinum toxin injections (Botox®):

With botulinum toxin treatment, we inject tiny amounts of botulinum toxin into certain facial muscles to temporarily inhibit their activity. This immobilisation reduces the appearance of wrinkles, particularly in areas such as the forehead, eyes (laugh lines) and mouth. Botulinum toxin injections can also be used preventively. Botulinum toxin inhibits the muscles so that wrinkles cannot progress any further. For example, frown lines are caused by using the forehead muscles.

  • Fillers:

Substances such as hyaluronic acid or collagen can be injected into the skin to restore volume and smooth wrinkles by plumping the skin from the inside out. This tightens the skin and effectively reduces wrinkles on the face.

  • Laser treatments:

Laser treatments are used to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture and reduce fine lines and wrinkles, particularly on the face. There are also lasers that help reduce the appearance of age spots and unsightly veins, which restores an even complexion.

  • Chemical peels:

A chemical peel is when special substances are applied to the skin to remove the top layer of skin and promote the production of new skin cells, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

The effectiveness of anti-wrinkle treatments varies depending on the method used, the individual’s skin and numerous other factors. In most cases, a combination of good skincare and a few targeted treatments achieves the best results. At our practice in Rapperswil-Jona, we will be happy to advise you on full face treatments, including the latest innovative methods and active ingredients to help you get the best results from your aesthetic treatment.

Where on the face can wrinkles be reduced?

There is no wrinkle that cannot be reduced. The most effective approach is a mixture of good skin care, optimal sun protection, small, targeted botulinum toxin injections and targeted use of hyaluronic acid fillers, lasers and biostimulators. This approach will achieve the best possible, most lasting wrinkle reduction effect by tightening the skin, increasing volume, stimulating fibroblasts, inhibiting muscles and stimulating collagen production.

If you want to look beautiful and refreshed for a special occasion, you can usually have these treatments and then go about your day (or have a wonderful night out) immediately afterwards, as long as they are applied carefully and professionally.

The history of anti-wrinkle treatments

How long have people been trying to reduce their wrinkles?

If you ask Chat GPT this, it answers:

“For centuries, people have used various methods and techniques to reduce or conceal the appearance of wrinkles. Even in ancient times, substances like honey, milk, and oils were applied to the skin to nourish and firm it. The use of masks and ointments was also widespread in ancient times.

Over time, the techniques and methods for reducing wrinkles have evolved. In the 19th century, for example, various creams and lotions were introduced to the market, often featuring ingredients like glycerin or lanolin to tighten the skin and smooth out wrinkles. By the 20th century, more advanced technologies, such as botulinum toxin injections, filler treatments, and laser therapies, became available for wrinkle treatment.

There is a long history of people striving to improve their skin’s appearance and reduce wrinkles. These efforts have evolved over time and are now more diverse and advanced than ever.” (Source: Chat GPT 3.5)

Risks

What are the risks and side effects?

When you have a hyaluronic acid filler treatment, regular top-up treatments may be required to help you maintain the results. While the procedure is minimally invasive, choosing a skilled practitioner is essential to ensure your safety and achieve the best possible results.

Our non-permanent, biodegradable fillers, including hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite, work in harmony with your body. Unlike permanent options such as silicone, these fillers are naturally broken down over time, offering results that typically last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the treatment area and product used.

Results are often visible immediately. While some patients may need to wait for minor swelling to subside before seeing the full volume increase effect, the enhancement is worth the short wait.

Side effects are generally mild and temporary, with possible reactions including slight redness, swelling, bruising, or minor pain at the injection site. These effects usually resolve quickly.

My advice

If you’re looking to get rid of facial wrinkles and fine lines, there are countless options available to you. I always recommend daily sun protection as the foundation for healthy, radiant skin, for both men and women, regardless of age.

However, even the best sunscreen can’t fully prevent the signs of ageing. If you’re looking for a solution to deepening frown lines, fine lip wrinkles, furrows around the nose, or forehead creases, aesthetic treatments may be the answer.

At our clinic in Rapperswil-Jona, we offer personalised, in-depth consultations to help you choose the perfect treatment from our wide range of options. Our goal is to achieve the best possible result tailored to your unique needs.

FAQs – Frequently asked questions

No cream can penetrate as deeply into the skin or muscles as Botox or hyaluronic acid. This severely limits their effects, even with the best ingredients. I therefore always recommend minimally invasive aesthetic treatments to combat the ageing process on the face.

A full face treatment may consist of treatment with hyaluronic acid alone or a combination of different methods. For the injection of hyaluronic acid anywhere on the face where volume has been lost, one treatment is usually sufficient. If you opt for this treatment in combination with chemical peels or laser treatments, I recommend at least two treatments at intervals of 2-3 weeks.

A full face treatment is a complete facial treatment with the aim of rejuvenating the skin and reducing wrinkles. The methods we use will depend on the condition of your skin, the area to be treated and your goals. We will be happy to advise you and create your optimum treatment plan together with you.

Unfortunately, aesthetic treatments are very expensive. Hyaluronic acid injections in particular cost a small fortune, depending on the amount used. In order to keep the costs within reasonable limits and still achieve optimal results, I have set the price for a full face treatment with hyaluronic acid in my practice at CHF 3,500.

This allows us to ensure that we can inject filler wherever volume has been lost in the face.
